After the runaway success that Capcom has enjoyed with their Monster Hunter franschise, other Japanese software publishers have taken notice of the PSP. Sega's Phantasy Star Portable has enjoyed similarly strong sales, while Square Enix has a whole bunch of great things lined up for the system. In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Koei boss Kenji Matsubara stated that his company would also like to jump into the fray. Koei, which is most widely known for its Dynasty Warriors brawler, has something a little bit more cooperative in mind for their next PSP project. Even better, the company has Western gamers in mind specifically for this new game:
"One problem is that in the States, it's not so popular for people to get together and have team play with the PSP," said Matsubara. "Some people say that such team play will grow in the Western market, but some people say that Western people are not so much interested in team play. That's why we'd like to see if such team play could be popular in the Western market."
All of this sounds great to us, and we can't help but wonder whether the company will draw on existing properties like Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Disgaea, or whether they will strike out to explore new territory with thier planned PSP game.
