Armored Core 4 is a video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the 12th installment of From Software's Armored Core series, despite being titled Armored Core 4. Armored Core 4 is set in the future, where a great war has left the nations of Earth devastated and their respective governments taken over by corporations. The game features a system for personalized customization of the player's mech and an online mode where players can battle each other over the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live. The game is similar to the MechWarrior series and is the spiritual sibling to From Software's other mecha-based game, Chromehounds.

Oct 27th, 2006 - From Software's Armored Core 4 is a standout title in the PlayStation 3's early lineup primarily because it's not a racing game (Japan gets Motorstorm, F1, Need for Speed and Gran Turismo HD all in one month!). But there's more to the game than just a lack of cars. In the latest issue of Famitsu PS2, producer Toshifuma Nabeshima offered first details about the online play planned for the game.

Eight players will be able to get together for network battles in Armored Core 4. The game will offer battle royal and team-based combat. Nabeshima expects some intense fights as player counts go up, and he encourages all gamers to try out an eight player battle at least once.


While From is using the PS3's networking capabilities to their fullest, the same can't be said about the Sixaxis. AC4 won't make use of motion sensing controls. According to Nabeshima, his team looked into the possibility, but decided against it due to doubts that motion controls would work well with the game.
